Since 1984, Slave Lake Adult Education has supported adult learners in Slave Lake and area. We offer group classes and one-on-one tutoring for adults. Our courses include English as second language, basic digital skills, basic math, help for adults with reading and writing, learner’s permit preparation, skills for learning, and food safety.

We are a Community Adult Learning Program, which has a mandate to help adults who have fallen through the cracks and need support in reading, writing, basic math, skills for learning, and English as a second language.

Many of our courses are free. In most cases, the fee can also be waived if that is a financial barrier.

What is Treaty 8?

Treaty 8 was signed on 21 June 1899 by the Crown and First Nations of the Lesser Slave Lake area. It covers roughly 841,487.137 km2 of what was formerly the North-West Territories and British Columbia, and now includes northern Alberta, northwest Saskatchewan, and portions of the modern Northwest Territories and BC, making it the largest treaty by area in the history of Canada.
